Dolly Rebecca Parton
Dolly Rebecca Parton was created on the
19th of January, 1946, in Pittman Center (Tennessee). She was born to Avie Lee
Parton and Robert Lee Parton in Sevierville. Parton is a homewife and Parton is
a farmer of tobacco. When she was 12, she was appearing on Knoxville TV and at
13 she had already begun recording on a small label , and was performing on the
Grand Ole Opry. After finishing high school in 1964, she relocated to Nashville
for the start of her country-singing career. Carl Dean, a asphalt-paving company
owner was her first lover. The couple was married on May 30 in 1966. Her
singing in 1967 caught the interest of Porter Wagoner, who hired her to be a
part of his show, The Porter Wagoner Show (1961). She stayed with the show for
seven years. Their duets gained fame, and she appeared with his band at the
Grand Ole Opry; she also performed on tour and sold records. In 1970, when her
hit song "Joshua" hit the top spot at the top spot, her popularity
was too great to match his. In 1974, she went alone and recorded duets
alongside him. She quit him to become a solo artist in 1974. Dolly was a
massive success as a songwriter/singer. Dolly was awarded many Country Music
Association awards (1968-70, 1971-1972, 1975-1976 and 1976). The diminutive
(5'0") beauty was a natural for television, and by the mid-1970s she was
frequently appearing on television specials and talk shows prior to launching
her own, Dolly (1976). Dolly got her first Grammy award in 1977 for Best Female
Country Vocal Performance. Dolly's movie debut was in 9 to 5 (1980) in which
she got an Oscar nomination for writing the title track, as well as Grammy
Awards 2 and 3: Best Country Song, and Best Female Country Vocal Performance
for the song "Nine to Five." Dolly gained more attention for being in
The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas (1982) and in Rhinestone (1984) with the
track "Tennessee Homesick Blues". Dolly Parton Enterprises is her
media empire, worth $100 million. In 1986, she created Dollywood in the form of
a Tennessee theme park in Pigeon Forge. This was to commemorate her Smoky
Mountain childhood. She was in the Dolly (1987) television show. In 1988, she
was awarded another Grammy: Best Country Performance Duo or Group with Vocals,
for "Trio".
