Meg Ryan

Meg Ryan is a blonde-haired blue-eyed lady with a vivacious personality. Meg Ryan was born Margaret Mary Emily Hyra to Susan (Duggan) and was the daughter of an English teacher and a former actor. Harry Hyra was a math teacher. Meg Ryan is of Ruthenian, Polish, Irish and German heritage ("Hyra" is an Irish and Ruthenian surname and "Ryan" is her maternal grandmother's maiden name). Meg has graduated from Bethel High School, Bethel in May 1979. When she moved to New York, she attended New York University where she majored in journalism. Meg Ryan was her new name, and she started acting to earn money during her time at university. In the year 1981, she had her big screen debut with only a brief appearance as Candice Bergen's daughter in George Cukor's last film Rich and Famous (1981). She was chosen for the role of Betsy in the TV soap The World Turns the World Turns (1956) after she was able to audition. From 1982 until 1984, she was a part of the team. Meg also had a part in the TV show One of the Boys (1982) however, the show was eventually cancelled. In 1984, she moved to a town with a lot of tinsel and eventually landed a job in the western TV series Wildside (1985). Meg played a minor role in Top Gun (1986), and was later featured in Steven Spielberg's Innerspace (1987) which was a film in which she was starring alongside Dennis Quaid. For the remake of D.O.A., she starred in a second time with Quaid. (1988) and got married on Saint Valentine's Day 1991. Meg was in 1989's When Harry Met Sally... (1989), and the scene in the restaurant became famous. Meg was nominated for both the Golden Globe and the BAFTA. In 1990, she co-starred with Tom Hanks in Joe Versus the Volcano (1990) and this time she played three roles as DeDe/Angelica/Patricia. She appeared again alongside Tom in the hugely successful Sleepless in Seattle (1993) for which she was again nominated for the Golden Globe. Meg was able to break away from the trend in 1994, when she played the role of Meg's wife who is an alcoholic and mother "When a Man Loves a Woman" (1994). Following that, Meg returned to her "cute" I.Q. (1994) and French Kiss (1996). People Magazine named Meg "Woman of the Year" in 1994. In 1994, she received the Harvard Hasty Pudding Award.
